A Question of Freedom

There’s nothing more precious to individuals than their freedom—yet we sometimes forget that freedom means different things at different moments in our lives.  When we were young, freedom meant moving out of the house we grew up in and striking out on our own.  By the time we reached middle age, the freedom we pursued as young adults had lost much of its appeal.  At that point in our lives, freedom meant creating a home where we felt secure and could raise a family if we chose.

Attaining Freedom After Retirement
When we reach retirement, it’s time to redefine freedom once again, yet it is the most natural thing in the world to cling to our outmoded view of freedom.  The house where we’ve spent so much of our lives has pleasant memories, even though it may now require us to devote an increasing amount of energy to keeping it up.  We still enjoy its location even though we understand that our discomfort with driving at night means that we are increasingly housebound.

By postponing the moment when we adopt a definition of freedom more appropriate for our time in life, we are inadvertently arresting our development, much like those young people who live with their parents far into their twenties.

Understanding the Potential of Independent Living
One reason people hesitate is that they appreciate what they will lose when they uproot themselves from their comfortable existence, but they are not sure what they’ll gain.  That’s why we recommend you take the time to look before you leap by visiting a Sunrise independent living community near you.

Sunrise independent living communities are designed to provide seniors with the services and support they need to live their lives to the fullest.  We offer a wealth of social, cultural, and recreational programs, provide transportation for routine shopping, doctor appointments, and religious observances, and prepare delicious meals served restaurant-style in our dining rooms.

At Sunrise, you’ll have ample opportunities to socialize with your fellow residents and to be part of a community of people with diverse interests and outlooks.  We take care of routine maintenance and housekeeping so that you are free to focus on the things in life that matter.

We invite you to contact a Sunrise independent living community near you and arrange to take a tour.  Come back as often as you like to have lunch with residents and join in their activities—and experience the renewed sense of freedom that is possible at Sunrise.
